The Last Family in England by Matt Haig
3.0
I'm still reading Matt Haig's backlist and I've had The Last Family in England on my shelves for a while waiting to be read. Yes I was drawn into this as a dog lover and as you can see from the mixed reviews it is either highly recommended to dog lovers or highly disliked by dog lovers. I personally really did enjoy it for the most part of the story. I really loved Prince's POV and the other dogs, and honestly the humans let this novel down. Whilst I didn't *like* the ending, it was heart-wrenching, I still understood it but right beforehand there is a reveal that I found really sad and this let down the book in my opinion.
Matt Haig's writing style is always a winner in my eyes, I love the way he forms the chapters and prose, it is like poetry. I love the life lessons he includes, especially regarding mental health, I feel really understood reading his work. This isn't a book that I would widely recommend as it deals with some very sensitive topics but if you are interested, read content & trigger warnings before giving it a go.
