yeahhhh i really wanted to like this one but i just couldn’t…. i considered DNF’ing but pushed through and didn’t really find myself rewarded for it :(
it was written like a 15 year old’s wattpad fanfic in the nicest way possible— the characters were acting as though they were 15 instead of 19 and were very shallow at times. this was introduced to me as an ‘enemies to lovers’ and it really tried to be one but it was not. logan’s “hatred” for ava felt so forced that it was hard to empathize with him or even want the characters to get together. i just couldn’t feel any connection between them for the longest time and even together it was very meh. once they were together, their relationship was very cute together and that probably saved the book.
shout out to the author for including a list of content warnings (some mentioned in this review), was helpful to know going into the book. in particular, there was an emphasis on disordered eating in the first half of the novel, prior to them getting together, but once they did, it was like it disappeared. i wish that the author had done more to address that as well as several other plot points. overall, it just felt as though everything was jammed into one novel and nothing was well fleshed out.
spice level is perhaps 🌶️/5, from someone who reads a lot more NA novels, this was very very mild, nothing graphic. it was the one open-door chapter and that’s about it.
