As a big fan of Matt Haig, The Life Impossible was one of my most anticipated book releases of 2024 so I was delighted when my library hold finally arrived in.
A hybrid of fantasy, sci-fi and magical realism, we follow a retiree Grace who migrates to Ibiza following the disappearance of an old colleague. The plot did lose me occasionally, but as I adjusted my expectations and came at the story with an open mind, I fell in love with the characters and the deeper meanings of the narration.
I did enjoy the Ibiza setting but as someone who isn't personally into travel (and hasn't visited Ibiza before), I didn't feel that connection to the island that was so beautifully described. I love Matt Haig's distinctive writing style, and whilst it can be repetitive at times, it just feels special how as a reader you feel brought into the story.
I would recommend to fans of magical realism, and I definitely think this fits in well with the rest of Matt Haig's titles.
