This is Amiko, Do You Copy? by Natsuko Imamura

4.0

I picked up this translated novella in a local bookstore after enjoying Nails and Eyes, a novella also published by Pushkin Press. I didn't know much going into the story but I quickly found so much relatability to the main character Amiko. I loved reading from her POV in third person as she matures from 10 years old. There's some upsetting content in this book (read content warnings before reading) but I think it was handled with care. It is a strange yet very sad story which demonstrates so many real human experiences.
This is my first read of Natsuko Imamura and I am highly interested in reading The Woman in the Purple Skirt in the future.
