Overall, I think this is a good read. It introduces a fun magic system and the plot is fast-paced and answers are never drawn-out but rather timely made, which I super appreciated. The plot is very forward driven which helps to create anticipation at every turn of the page.

In terms of the romance, this is insta-love and that’s something I have never been a huge fan of, so it admittedly affected my engagement. I think that just comes down to personal taste, and those who are warm to instant-love will absolutely sizzle at the chemistry over these leads!

I do think if you’re quite engaged with fantasy/romantasy, the plot will feel overly familiar, treading on a path that’s well traveled. If you aren’t familiar with the genre, this one will keep you on your toes with its thrills and excitement.

Although I may feel lukewarm towards this one, there are concepts that really intrigued. Especially the dreamwalking and portal magic. The ending also took flight, ending with a definite need to know what happens next. I look forward to the sequel!
