Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling

5.0

I absolutely loved this book. Mindy is the kind of girl I would want to hang out with because her reactions to many situations mirror mine. Someone is being cold towards me? I will embarrass myself in an attempt to impress that person. Totally me. Her humor is both egotistical and self-deprecating, which is something that resonates with me.

Her stories about her childhood, her move to New York, and the job opportunities in LA were presented in a way that didn't sound boring or overly self-indulgent. The pop culture references, for some reason, made me believe she knew what she was doing writing this book. It didn't sound like she was trying way too hard to be funny. It truly sounded genuine, to me at least.
