The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
5.0
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I certainly didn't expect to give it a five-star rating when I picked it up, but as you can see, that's exactly what happened. Here's why..
As a mother of a child with ADHD, I found myself loving the author for creating a cast of characters whose otherwise troublesome behavioral tics were actually a sign of greatness. That inability to sit still? Means you were born of a god or godess. It means you're special and unique and no wonder the mortals don't really get you. Seriously, I could hug Mr. Riordan.
The mythology. What a great way to introduce kids to the subject. Bravo, I say!
I also loved the fact that while the children were the true heroes, the adults weren't just idly sitting by watching things happen. The motivations and limitations of each character seemed well thought out and necessary.
