Aftermath by Chuck Wendig

Okay, like, first of all, I'm categorically uninterested in star wars that happens after the end of rotj, because the story IS in fact over after the end of rotj. regardless, it's not like there's exactly nothing that i could want to see that happens after rotj; for example...
Two additional caveats are: WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE? and also I'm like 90% of the way through heir to the empire, which is functionally the same story so I'm doubly like "wait? who are these people? where's thrawn?*" than i normally would be. and i don't even care about thrawn!!!
I'm just a little perplexed by this book within the star wars canon. there's simply too much going on here. it's not really a bad book or a bad star wars book, but it is too ambitious for a stand alone** and there are too many characters in too short of a book to make it feel like, yeah, i'm excited about reading about these guys
*because the ahsoka show and also this book are both now canon, that means thrawn has been defeated by a ridiculous 18 year old boy and is living with his zombie storm troopers in a different galaxy. of course, that has no relation to this book whatsoever.
**i also know that it ISN'T a standalone, technically, but it is basically it's own sci-fi novel inside the star wars universe; but it could be about any sci-fi universe. what are we doing here, like for what.
