The Incarnations by Susan Barker
5.0
This was...a very intriguing book. It was like reading a dozen novels in one. To summarize: cab driver Wang gets mysterious letters that tell him stories about his past life. These letters are from his soul mate, whom for about 98% of the book we're not entirely sure who. We have suspicions, but I'm not going to spoil the story for you.
These letters recount their many lives together spanning over a thousand years. One letter was about them being eunuch father and whore daughter, which was my favorite incarnation. That was a really fun letter to read, I tell you.
Anyway, in each letter, they keep meeting no matter what kind of person they are in their new lives. Until finally, Wang's soul mate catches up to him in present time. Who it is is the mystery.
It's not a long book. But for 384 pages, you really have to absorb every page. I highly recommend this.
