I gotta say, I’ve realized I do not find Beverly Jenkins early work good😭

I really loved parts of this story (the contraband camp, adopting the orphans, Harriet Tubman, etc) but overall it was paced weirdly and felt at times like 3 different books

Little warning that there’s lot of casual talk of Israel, none of it critical

This book is so good and so worth a read but unfortunately dyscalculia makes reading a book with stat after stat after stat impossible for me🥲

Definitely an enjoyable book if not a great one. I had fun reading it!

A lot of racist phrasing, some of it super unsettling

I almost didn’t read this because of how little I care for the source material but OH MY GOD! What a book! Truly one of the best I’ve ever read
