I began Thunderhead the moment I finished Scythe and so the beginning of one and the end of the other is a little blurry but a demonstration of the quality of the series.
We see our main characters from book one face new challenges alongside new characters that you quickly grow to love. New challenges rise that expand concepts from the first book, giving us a more detailed picture of Shusterman's future world and a better idea of its workings - the Scythe journal extracts replaced witj the thoughts of the Thunderhead.
It well demonstrates the duality of man and how difficult it can be to account for it or make a world free of it, even with a perfect force in power.
Like the book before it, Thunderhead does a great job of making us love and hate all the right people at the right times, bringing into question the morality of those we love even when their quests appear moral by having other characters question their motives. It also does an excellent job of making you ask questions while only answering half of them to set up for the book following it.
This book certainly adds to the overall value of the series and makes it more worthwhile

I picked up scythe at my college library after I'd asked where it had gone (they had the second two books, not the first) and they ordered a new copy, making it reserved for me. I hadn't been sure I even wanted to read it but I cannot explain how glad I am that I did.
I read the majority of it in one day after being in a month long reading slump and dystopia is not a genre I usually read - surely a tesement to the quality of the book.
The characters are loveable in the best way - you love to hate the villains, cheer for the protagonists and you gasp, cry and potentially even yell in the places you should. I definitely got some curious looks in public over my loud gasping and curious facial expressions.
I'm not the most intelligent person but I'm not particularly dumb either - I'm right about the murderer about 50% of the time in crime media - and yet I was constantly caught off guard by this book. I never knew where it was going or what would be next, in the best possible way.
The concept for a future of our world is also incredibly interesting, condensing America into four regions, changing the way people speak about ethnicity, creating world-wide law and new governing bodies strictly for the people known as Scythes with separation of Sycthe and State.

I went into this book terrified that I wouldn't like it. People online and my friends all spoke highly of it but I'm glad to say it lived up to its reputation.
Heavy topics were handled well and with care, the characters were relatable and their reactions were realistic and in the end Lily made the right choice which is so important.
It was a rollercoaster of emotions from beginning to end. I laughed, I cried, I rolled my eyes and I yelled (my friends can confirm) and only a good book can make you feel all those things.

I received this book as an arc and I loved reading it so much. A story of feminism written by a women for women, showing us a cast of diverse women fighting for themselves, their sisters, their daughters, their mothers and anyone else who matters deeply to them.
Set in 1800s America, during the fight for women's suffrage, three witch sisters come together to cause trouble and help women across the country while uncovering the lost magic of their ancestors, stolen from them by men.
This book kept me gripped and entertained all the way through, I never wanted to put it down. There was moments that made me cry, feeling the deep relationship and sisterhood between the sisters of Avalon. Cannot recommend it enough

So, Evelyn Hugo.
This book gets so hyped and I was so looking forward to reading it when I grabbed it at the library and just found myself very underwhelmed. It was okay, it was nice, without the hype it probably would've gotten four stars, three and a half at the least.
The book is good, Evelyn is a good morally gray character and her relationship with Harry is so amazing and the twists at the end were worth the wait. I just don't know why people think it's god's gift to readers - the latine representation isn't even that good.
All in all? I enjoyed it but I'm glad I borrowed it instead of paying for it

I am a big fan of Jennifer Lynn Barnes as an author and intend to buy anything she writes in future and am on a quest to own everything she has published thus far so I bought this book the moment I could and I was beyond excited when I got my hands on it. It took me a while to read it and with college happening things kept getting in the way but with forty minutes of free time at the end of the day and an hour and ten bus ride, it was done!
Once I got my free time, I could not put this book down. I love the characters and didn't need a reread of the first book to refresh me on them, I remembered them like I remember the way around my local supermarket.
The book is fast paced and so loveable, constantly leaving me guessing and ripping away the answers that I thought I'd had when I had nothing else. The characters are complex and so morally grey, I love it!

Though I'm disappointed that Avery appears to have chosen Jameson over Grayson I am glad that the triangle seems to be solved before the third book! The incest-y vibe at the start of the book did unnerve me but I'm glad Barnes isn't following Cassandra Clare's footsteps 😅. If you need to use the word technically, when talking about incest, it's already too close!
