Valuable reflection on activism, dialogue, and identity politics. I appreciate the reflections on the past in order to inform how we move forward.

Elif Shafak is a master of the novel. All of her books are stellar- they’re reflective, beautiful, passionate, incredible. Reading this book forced me to slow down a little bit in my reading, but in the best way. I wanted to really take in the story and messages.
I think you can’t help but be endeared to Zaleekhah, Narin, and Arthur- as different as they are, they have experiences that many can relate to and finding their common connections was done so well & was very emotional. There are threads - or water droplets - that connect us all.
Also, through Arthur specifically, Shafak shows how even the poorest in the global core play a role in the ostracization and colonization of the periphery. How even people who understand and experience inequalities can perpetrate them elsewhere.
