The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh

It was a book club read and everyone else was pretty into it, but I wasn’t. I would have probably DNFd it just bc it wasn’t my mood and I’m in a book slump but I did like a lot of aspects of the story and the ending was cute overall.
My cousin said it read like it was a studio ghibli movie which I agree with but it was a slow start.

Loved the set up of this - slice of life with very relatable wash day hair stuff along with true life/friendship plots.
Literally finished it so fast.

I love Alice haha it’s been too long since I read this series and idk it just came to mind and I really wanted to re read it bc it was one of my firsts and favorites as a kid in terms of “romance”.
I started it thinking it would read super out dates and I wouldn’t actually like it but WOW this book is basically timeless??? The growth around Mrs. Plotkin was amazing. It sucked that Mrs. Plotkin was written so from such a negative point of view but I think Alice’s perception was overall accurate based off how society expect women to look.

It was pretty “light” for a dark romance. Lots of erotic that I personally skipped lol but their love was pretty puppy dog cute all mafias and move considered.
The narrators do a FANTASTIC job bc I was fully engaged with the voices (and plot ofc).

It’s good but not really keeping me focused and I don’t love the “flashback” style.

It’s not bad but does read a tad elementary so after putting it down, I’m not inclined to keep reading.

A rom com that wasn’t bad, sometimes funny but mostly average execution in terms of actual plot/climax
