"You know, maybe the first book was just a little rough but the second one will have found its footing and be better-" nope, they're just bad. The writing style and humor that kind of carries the first book into a "haha, this book is a silly fun joke, don't take it too seriously" attitude is less cute the second time around.

This book was really not very good but my 14 year old self would have eaten it up so it gets an honorary 3 star on those grounds

I have mixed feelings on this one. It was overall sweet and low stress but with just enough mystery to keep it interesting, and it checked a lot of my cozy comfort read boxes, so that's a plus. BUT it also utilizes my very least favorite trope: all of these people's problems could be solved with one frank 5-10 minute conversation.

When you're thinking "okay finally, this should get everyone on the same page and begin to wrap things up" and then a character suddenly goes "nope!" and does something batshit insane, it smacks of the author realizing they need to hit a certain amount more pages and realizing they're not going to make it.

I did like this one overall and found the writing good and engaging, so if you're a person who doesn't mind misunderstanding tropes, you will probably love it.

The plot in this book is really hanging on by a thread and hinges on the fact that none of these people know how to be remotely normal
