Such a cool concept for a short story, but as always, I need more of these characters

I'm beginning to think that this series may not be for me.

I'm liking Juliette a lot more in this book; she seems more mature (although going to war and only being able to think about who you will choose as a lover if you survive is still pretty immature).

I do feel like Warner seems more human, but I still don't see the "crush" everyone has on him.

The plot is still lacking. I guess I will find out more later in the series, but still, I feel like I need more information.

Also, history-wise, not a lot has happened in 400 pages???? It's more a book of character development. I'm still waiting for the moment Adam betrays Juliette, or we find out that Castle is not as good as it seems—OR SOMETHING, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. PLEASE, SOMETHING HAPPEN.

That's a 4.25 ☆ for me!

I loved Aila, and I loved her development in the story, how she came out of her shell. I loved the friendship at first with Luciana, and their romantic relationship afterward was so cute, even though it felt a bit rushed.

I just wish we got more of Tanya. She seemed like a really good friend, and I feel as if Aila wasn't reciprocating that...

The action at the ending was fun (even though I wouldn't have minded a death or two), and overall, the world-building is great. The birds and animals were all so cute, and I just hope the phoenixes can be let to live wildly someday.

The romance in this was so cute, and the smut is *chef kiss*, but the story line is kind of weak, and by half of the book I was kind of tired of Mariel and her mindset.

I do want to read the second book because I think I will like the characters a lot more than Mariel and Oz.

That was so cute, even though I waited half a year to read it because I wanted spooky vibes, and it gave me more spring vibes (in hindsight, I should have known because of the publishing date).

I actually need a Charlie in my life; he had not even an ounce of grumpiness in him, and he knew exactly how to take care of Gretchen. The tension between them was *chef's kiss*.

I think I'm DNFing this one at 35%. It's definitely not what I expected, and it's not for me. I can see a lot of flaws in the storyline, and I'm kind of disappointed that they're already off the ship and seem so uninterested in investigating the murder. I'm also not in the mood for something so political.

That was so boring... Why are bot of them so flavoreless??

Everything was so badly explained, like what happened with the exes or what happened with Annie, and both of them were giving nothing. I had to DNF because it was soooo bad.
