i am such a sucker for spy books, this was so fun to read!! i found there to be more of a focus on the plot rather than the romance and i kinda liked it that way ngl tho i wish we got to see more badassery from dove as a hacker
knew nothing about f1 but the cover and description was so cute i had to read it, and this was an absolutely wonderful decision!! i love the character dynamics especially between olivia and dylan, their bff dynamic is just as noteworthy as the main pairing tbh
i can’t comment on the accuracy of f1 representation but i love that it was a huge part of the plot here and it wasn’t just focused on sex. instead we got a build up of the relationship between olivia and jonah (slow burn, my fav!) with lots and lots of tension 🥵
am def looking forward to more books in the series by this author!!
way too much of a rollercoaster, in the bad way. felt like every time I knew where it was going the cart was flipped upside down and dropped on the ground
Plot Twist by Carmen Sereno is centred around Marcel Black, a well-known crime author, and Siobhan Harris, a fresh debut contemporary romance. Following a Twitter feud, they are tasked with writing a fusion crime and romance novel together. It follows their journey while co-authoring this novel and shows how their relationship changes from "enemies" to something more.
This was my first time reading a book by this author and it was a refreshing change of pace from the typical instant love that has been dominating the contemporary romance genre lately. The tension and build-up to the relationship between Siobhan and Marcel, especially their first kiss had me screaming. I liked that there was a focus on their emotional relationships and other non-physical aspects rather than an overabundance of sex scenes. This is an open-door book though it is not something to be expected throughout the book. I have been in a bit of a reading slump so I found the beginning to be a bit slow, but once Marcel and Siobhan's Twitter feud began, I just couldn't put the book down. This book is perfect for those who like slow-burn and the "enemies" to friends to lovers trope.
However, there were many acronyms used throughout the book that I didn't recognize. This may be due to my general lack of knowledge of book acronyms, but it made the reading experience a bit choppy as I had to look up the acronyms on my Kindle and couldn't always find them.
Other than that, it was an absolutely wonderful read, and if I could sum up their relationship in two emojis it would be this: 💗🖤. If you're looking for a rom-com with HEA, this is the one.
Thank you to Amazon Crossing and Netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
sooooooooo good. no words to describe it, i completely devoured the book and put all homework aside... when avril said "he was a punk she did ballet" anthony nerada really said he was a punk and he did ballet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there were so many different characters and complexity and it was great to say all of the different layers unfold. i love this and am so glad i came across this recommendation
the story is told from the perspective of a medical intern and shows their life during the first year of their internship. was a fun read to follow along and it was really easy to empathize with the main character. i wish the story had developed a bit further regarding her medical training instead of focusing on more of the romantic aspect. it would have been nice to see a more complete conclusion. though it was nice to have an epilogue where we saw them bring the story full circle with her as a resident afterwards with a intern of her own and having the same attitude as alyssa
Rating subject to change because I still can't figure out how I feel about this book 2 days after finishing it. I'm still baffled at how this book just fell so short of my expectations considering I absolutely loved the first book and have it on my re-read list. But while reading this book I was just bored and at some point, I was just reading for completion. I had hopes that the book would get better as I read it, but it just never came.
Winnie and Archer's relationship entirely felt like insta-love to me and there was no development. I found myself mindlessly breezing through the book and at some point they just loved each other. Also, Archer set this whole premise where he would not take their relationship any further until Winnie fully trusts him, but it was quickly abandoned by lust. After sleeping together, she just magically trusted him and that was the end of it. The timeline following their relationship was also really confusing and it was hard to tell how much time had passed making it even harder to follow.
In general, I didn't like the storyline at all. They introduced a plot which I thought was going to be the main problem-- which also didn't make sense. Why did she have to marry Archer and him specifically because her sex tape was leaked? It just isn't realistic to any extent and then it was resolved within the first few chapters. Nothing happened for the longest time and then it was reintroduced at the end of the book again. It felt as if nothing was going on the entire time, there was really no plot.
Also, I just didn't like Archer's character either. It read more like he was obsessed with her than in love as he just lusted over her the whole time. It was like he flipped a switch and it just caught me entirely off guard in a bad way. But yeah, this book is a no for me unfortunately.
I first came across this book through IG reels and I had thought that the blurb that I read was from somewhere in the middle of the book, but when I actually started to read it, it was somewhere in the first 25% of the book (I think). It felt like I started reading from the middle of the book, there wasn't much of a plot, other than the bucket list. I read a review saying that there were books that were previously about the parents so perhaps this is more enjoyable for those looking to read about the second gen.
While I understand this includes the "reformed player" trope, I found Ryder to be too unlikeable that I didn't care enough to see his character development. With each chapter where we could see into his mind, you can see how self-centered he is in all aspects of his life. He believes that the world revolves around him and doesn't make any efforts to become a better person, in general. It's also pretty gross that he claims Juliette like she's an object, I think that was the final straw where I put the book down and lost all hope.
Despite that, the book still had redeeming qualities. I liked Juliette's character thus far and she was far more relatable and likeable. The tension between her and Ryder was absolutely wonderful too and was one of the things that kept me going while reading it (love me a good book with delicious tension!). The author writes well, but I just don't think this was the book for me.
