OHMYGOD!!!!!!! the tension between sadie and julius is so good ann liang nailed the enemies to lovers trope like no one has done it like them since maybe jude and cardan. good thing i started after my midterm was finished or id have been so screwed lolā€¦ā€¦.

the only thing that was kinda strange was the storyline involving how sadieā€™s emails got sent outā€” i wasnā€™t really a fan and it didnā€™t make much sense to me

really was just here for the enemies to lovers + academic setting :P

yeahhhh i really wanted to like this one but i just couldnā€™tā€¦. i considered DNFā€™ing but pushed through and didnā€™t really find myself rewarded for it :(

it was written like a 15 year oldā€™s wattpad fanfic in the nicest way possibleā€” the characters were acting as though they were 15 instead of 19 and were very shallow at times. this was introduced to me as an ā€˜enemies to loversā€™ and it really tried to be one but it was not. loganā€™s ā€œhatredā€ for ava felt so forced that it was hard to empathize with him or even want the characters to get together. i just couldnā€™t feel any connection between them for the longest time and even together it was very meh. once they were together, their relationship was very cute together and that probably saved the book.

shout out to the author for including a list of content warnings (some mentioned in this review), was helpful to know going into the book. in particular, there was an emphasis on disordered eating in the first half of the novel, prior to them getting together, but once they did, it was like it disappeared. i wish that the author had done more to address that as well as several other plot points. overall, it just felt as though everything was jammed into one novel and nothing was well fleshed out.

spice level is perhaps šŸŒ¶ļø/5, from someone who reads a lot more NA novels, this was very very mild, nothing  graphic. it was the one open-door chapter and thatā€™s about it.

rook and sun are the cutest i love them both <3 for a standalone and relatively shorter novel, the relationship development was well-paced. the magic aspect was entertaining and a fun ā€˜lil element. but the overall world-building was a bit limited, as the novel focussed mainly on rook + sun. the resolution was a bit anti-climatic as well, i was expecting something more grand or perhaps a bit more of a prolonged adventure based on the description.  not quite 4 stars but definitely more than 3, it is perfect for a more light-hearted and good vibes read!
