3.5✨️✨️

The number of times I thought how stupid this girl was during this book was infinite. Everything she did was stupid, with stupid reasoning. This was a plot twist after plot twist, I really lost count of how many times the storyline changed.

It was fun, tho.

Also, I'm pretty sure the author wants you to fall in love with Jameson or Grayson, but my heart is with Oren. I would let that man protect me anytime.
Finlay Donovan Is Killing It by Elle Cosimano

Okay, I'm thinking 2.75✨ JUST for the epilogue, and I'm being generous.

I picked up this book because I saw reviews saying that this combined murder, mystery and humor, but let me tell you something, I didn't laugh, not once.

That was supposed to be a good plot, a writer who suddenly becomes a hit lady, and it had a lot of good subplot drama, like the custody battle or the romance.
But then, the worst happened. I hated Finlay Donovan. She is the blandest character ever, nothing amuses her. Killing someone by accident? A regular Thursday night for her, apparently.

The fact that also, all her problems could be solved in a normal way, making schedules for her kids or herself to write, but she's all boohoo poor me...
I liked more Vero's character than Finlay. I even liked more Nick's character, until he decided that he wanted to hook up with Finlay in the back of her car on duty WHILE ON WATCH FOR A SUSPECT OF MURDER.

Also, Julian??? Was he supposed to be a main character and then wrote out??

Every murder was absurd. There's also the fact that you're supposed to be thinking all the time about who is really murdering these people, why Patricia disappeared, why Theresa is working for the mob... but I couldn't care less tbh

The only reason I gave 2.75 stars was for the very last phrase of this book, because despite this, I'm hooked on why someone is trying to get her ex-husband killed.

Okay, so I just finished the book. For me, it's a 5 star. I liked the atmosphere, and the way Ava writes is beautiful.
Magnolia Parks by Jessa Hastings

3.5✨✨

ooooookay, where do I start...?

I loooove, love, love, love, the way Jessa Hastings writes. This book felt like reading a diary from a friend, the way she makes you feel like you're part of the story. The descriptions of places and feelings are so beautiful done, I could cry just from her descriptions (which I almost did in some parts).

I knew from the beginning I was walking into a toxic story, but it was A LOT more than what I was expecting. Magnolia is no saint, but girrrrrrl If you walk into his arms again, I'm going to step into the book and slap your face again and again. How can anyone be so dumb???
Don't even get me started on BJ, each time he appeared, I rolled my eyes so far that I think I have them stuck at the back of my head.

Also, what was the plot of this book supposed to be? Because the only thing that happens is:
-She hates BJ
-She loves BJ
-She hates BJ
-She loves BJ
And so on...
Bride by Ali Hazelwood

✨4 stars✨

So, like, nobody mentioned this book had politics and a mystery vibe? I was expecting some cheesy fake marriage and lovey-dovey stuff, but dang, was I wrong! First time diving into an Ali Hazelwood book, and now I'm low-key scared to read her other stuff, 'cause how can it top this?

It's also single POV from Misery, and that made it SO easy to read, plus she's hilarious and totally doesn't care whether she lives or dies.

I was all about the interspecies politics and the whole cultural clash thing. Misery fitting in but not really? That was cool. Loved the plot twists, although you can see them all coming from a mile away.

Only downside? Those steamy scenes were a bit too much for me. I'd prefer if they left more to the imagination, you know? Felt like reading some furry/omegaverse fanfic straight out of Wattpad circa 2014. But hey, I got over it 'cause the banter and tension between the characters? A+.

Oh, and heads up, they talk A LOT during the spicy scenes. Like, seriously, a LOT.

Also, can we just talk about Lowe? He could pin me down any day, no complaints here!
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

I was so ready for this to be a 5-star read, but honestly, V.E. Schwab’s writing style just isn't for me. It's SO. REPETITIVE. Addie did x thing, but wouldn’t learn the consequences until x amount of time later. Addie remembered x place, x place, and x place. That's basically her whole writing style.

I could only connect with Addie in the sense that it must be lonely to live 300 years and have no one remember you, and yeah, okay, I cried a little bit when she said goodbye to Henry.
A little bit —keywords—because on my crying scale, watery eyes and one single tear aren't enough to call this a masterpiece.

This book has so many pages and yet so little plot. It had no business being this long; we could have wrapped it up in 350 pages.

I predicted as soon as we met Henry that he was cursed too, and later I predicted AGAIN that Luc was letting them date just to mess with Addie. The ending is kind of... rushed? Like, I had to slog through pages of Addie running around Paris, but we only get a page and a half to explain her new deal?

Henry is an okay guy, like he seems decent, but the kind of guy you meet and, ironically, forget about eventually because he’s boring. To be honest, at some point, I thought Henry was Luc in disguise trying to get closer to Addie, and I wish that were true because it would be a lot more interesting.

In the end, I wish I liked it more. I wish this was the masterpiece everyone talks about and I could just put it on my favorites shelf. But honestly, it’s disappointing, and I don't think I'll be reading another V.E. Schwab book anytime soon.
