Murder Road by Simone St. James

3.75/4✨

I've been wanting to read a book by Simone St. James for a long time, and I think this one is a great place to start. I love the way she writes; the whole book felt like a mix between a '90s slasher movie and The Blair Witch Project.

I'm torn between giving it 3.75 and 4 stars because the plot is pretty predictable. It tries to mislead you into expecting a plot twist, but in reality, your first theory is usually correct.

Also docking points because I like everything wrapped up nicely, with all questions answered by the end. Not a fan of open endings, and while this book doesn’t have one, it still leaves a lot hanging.

Still, I really like her writing, and I’ll definitely be reading more of her books!

When I started reading this book, I honestly found it pretty tough. The beginning felt really slow, and I had a hard time connecting with the main character; she seemed like such a kid to me.

Even though it's technically not a YA book, it definitely feels like one. Most of the romance happens off-screen, and I honestly appreciate that because I'd feel pretty uncomfortable reading spicy scenes between characters who are 18 and 20 years old.

I have to say, even though the start is super slow, I devoured the ending. Once the plot picks up, it's really interesting. I loved Mal's development, how she starts trusting her family and friends and opens up about past traumas.

Overall, it's a 3.75✨ for me. The plot is pretty predictable, but it's a good palate cleanser and an easy read.

I'm going to give this one 3.75 stars.

I really loved the characters. I'm not usually fond of the single dad trope, but I did love Cora. She was so cute!

I usually don't go for boss-employee romances because they feel so unprofessional to me. But in this book, since he didn't actually hire her, it's kinda cute.

It's your typical rom-com: funny, light, and super easy to read. I think I finished it in under 24 hours.

There was one part where I thought the main male character was a total jerk, and I was so mad I had to stop reading. But if I’d just turned the page...

I picked this up as a way to introduce myself in dark romance since that's the selling point.

The plot seemed interesting enough, but I was kind of disappointed to see that everything happens in 4 years.
My issue with this book is that even though the tw list is pages long, about 75% of them happen in the first 100 / 150 pages. The rest of the book is about them being cute and having sex until the last 50 pages.
There's not even that much murder for a book about serial killers (like 5/6 murders in the Whole book ), but I did like the plot twist.

Also, why is everyone talking about the ice cream scene? it's not that bad. But I nearly threw up when eating raw human meat happened. Like, gross.

Don't get me wrong, I liked it as a romance story. It was cheesy at times, and if this was a regular romance book I would eat this up, and leave no crumbs, but this is sold as something that it's not.

Overall, 3 stars, but I do have to say I'm intrigued by the second book and the forest ghost killer or whatever his name is.

Side note: how many serial killers can a country have before it becomes a national security problem? All of them are known enough to have nicknames...

This was a buddy read with @itstooraa.books and also, recommended by my sister-in-law. I have to say, this was more cringey than it needed to be, but I did have fun reading it.

The only reason this is almost 2.75 stars is because it made me laugh a bit, the beginning of the book was cute and the few scenes between Bridget and Rhys were cute (I actually want to read their book).

I hate the way Alex behaves and I actually can't stand him. Like, the slurs while the spicy scenes were sooo uncalled for. I had to close my book for a while and breathe because it physically hurts.

I also know the author wanted us to empathize with Alex and Ava, and their backgrounds but I couldn't care at all about them and you could see the plot twist coming from a mile away.

Overall, I hope the next books are better than this one.

The book was slow at parts, but tbh I think as the first book of a series this had to happen at some point, specially since they're introducing us to the world (although I still don't know what happened).

Juliette was a bit stupid sometimes, and also, I guess you have to love Adam but I just hate him????? I don't think I can trust him (wild theory: he's just faking everything just so he could get on the enemy's base and report back).

I have high hopes for the rest of the series, now onto the 1.5 novella, which I think will make me love or hate Warner, I don't think there's and in-between.

Okay, now we know that Warner has a heart. I just hope he rebels against his father.

I went into this with absolutely no knowledge of anything Percy Jackson-related (I haven't watched the movies nor the TV show and haven't seen any spoilers about this series).

I wish I had read this when I was younger because these are the kind of books that shape one into loving reading.

It's so light and fun to read, I could have absolutely read this in one or two days, but alas, I had to be an adult and work.

I can't wait to continue the series.
