Homesick by Jennifer Croft
5.0
I may be a little biased because I am friends with the author and her family, but I think I would have loved the book regardless. It has such a unique format and voice with a story particular to one person but that anyone can relate to in one way or another. It's a poetic, emotional but optimistic, beautiful, portrait of two people and the relationship between them.
Everyone Communicates, Few Connect: What the Most Effective People Do Differently by John C. Maxwell
2.0
This is written by a supposed expert in communication with the help of a professional writer, and it has been a slog to get through. I'm reading it for work, and my boss and I agree that it's way too long and boring. If you're interested in the subject, get this from the library (don't pay for it), and just read the chapter summaries. There are a few good points, but he uses ten examples when a couple would suffice. And there are way too many stories and quotes. He's not following his own advice to get to the point. (Although one of his other suggestions is to say things over and over, which contradicts the first point.) Also, he quotes Roger Ailes more than once.
The Current by Tim Johnston

The plot was pretty good, although there were too many unanswered questions at the end. I got tired of the extremely long sentences.
Limoncello Yellow by Traci Andrighetti

I enjoyed the plot and setting, but it was very cheesy, and the characters were unbelievable. I hope a real cop would not be that clumsy and ditzy. Also, I don't think it portrays women very well.
All the Best Lies by Joanna Schaffhausen

I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just say that this book wasn't as satisfying to me as most murder mysteries I read, but I did enjoy the majority of the story.
