The Distant Hours by Kate Morton
3.0
I really liked The House at Riverton, but I felt like this book was trying way too hard to be dramatic and suspenseful, like characters kept getting goosebumps and feeling ominous foreboding. It was very long and show, but then the ending felt rushed and took too many turns. I did really enjoy the setting and the plot generally.
One Good Deed by David Baldacci

I normally really like Baldacci and appreciate that he tried to do something different, but the cheesy attempt at noir, especially the clipped and "creative" dialogue had me rolling my eyes throughout.
Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell

I found this book really interesting, but I'm not sure he proved his hypotheses with only a couple of examples or statistics in each case. I do think teachers and parents should read this because it brings up some interesting points to think about and do more research on.
The Outsider by Stephen King

I don't think this is a bad book; it just wasn't for me. I like murder mysteries and Steven King books, but this is somehow both and neither.
This is nitpicky, and I'm glad he set most of the book in Oklahoma, but he keeps calling Oklahoma City "Okie City," which nobody does in real life, and it drove me crazy.

A Better Man by Louise Penny

I love Armand Gamache books, but this wasn't my favorite. I thought Gamache was uncharacteristically obtuse in this case, and I was annoyed at how many twists there were at the end. Then it ended up being the guy who reported the crime, and she didn't explain that or many of the clues.
